Being a new mum, my beauty routine has undergone a significant change. Long gone are the days of having 45 minutes to apply perfect eyeliner and flat iron every hair into place. I’m lucky if I get 5 minutes these days so i’ve had to whittle down the beauty routine. Luckily I’ve found a few time saving products to make the most of the time I have.
Now I know it seems weird to talk about nail polish as a “time saver” because clearly if you’re crunched for time you wouldn’t bother with nails at all…..but hey some habits are hard to let go of and being a mum shouldn’t mean not being able to have nice things, like decent nails. By time saver I mean something that doesn’t take a long time to apply and will last for a long time.
Chanel Le Vernis Nail Gloss – this limited edition nail gloss was a complete surprise! It looks like a stain in the bottle….something that you would need to spend endless time with, painting on layer after layer to get decent colour payoff. Not the case! One coat produced the most beautiful orange-based red nails that did not chip for days. Perfect for glam mums that enjoy a bold nail. I don’t mind a bit of red here and there but have to admit, it’s not my every day colour so I’m hoping that Chanel will release more options in this gloss formula. I’d love to see a hot pink or blackberry.
I’ve also recently discovered a great subtle option – Sally Hansen Color Therapy nail polish, this is a hard working product. It’s easy to apply quickly with the large brush, dries relatively fast and stays on for ages! The product claim is that it will infuse instant moisture and I have to say that my nails do feel stronger.
It’s been a hot summer in the city and the last thing I want to do is worry about a base that’s going to melt off 30 seconds after stepping outside. Some skincare with light coverage and an SPF is about all I need. Another surprising product has been Biotherm’s Skin Best CC Cream. I will warn you that the colour options are horrible….as in, it only comes in 2 shades; light and medium. The product is light weight and has a very natural bare skin finish plus it has SPF 25, so if you can work within the 2 colour options this is a fantastic all in one.
Just enough time to throw on some eyeliner and lip balm. Marc Jacobs beauty – I honestly didn’t expect much, I mean what does the purse guy know about makeup? Apparently quite a lot when it comes to eyeliner. The Highliner Gel Crayon is so soft and smooth to apply, smudge it into the lashline and off you go. I’m in love with the shade Ro(Cocoa), a smouldering bronzy brown.
Last product is a serious rave – Guerlain Superlips Lip Hero. This was a spontaneous purchase in the Sephora isle of doom, you know where you line up to pay and they have all those cute mini size products….the adult equivalent of the candy section by the grocery checkout. Lip Hero is like the perfect amount of everything, it’s glossy but not too glossy, moisturizing but not too thick and the smell is amazing. I’ll be stocking up on these!
