Some Random Beauty Bits

Something I’ve had on my beauty wishlist for a long time is the By Terry Baume de Rose. It’s a highly conditioning lip balm with a beautiful rose scent. I don’t think it was actually available in Canada until recently when Saks Fifth Avenue opened and they are now carrying the brand. I was very on the fence about buying it though because the 0.35oz jar costs $76 CAD. The lipgloss style tube format costs $67 CAD, it’s hard to justify paying that much for a lip balm. I decided to have a look for it in England to see if it was any cheaper in price.

Well I didn’t actually end up finding it and then I just forgot about the whole thing. So we’re on the plane coming home and I take a quick browse through the Sky Mall duty free catalog and low and behold, there’s the Baume de Rose for 26 GBP ($43 CAD)! It was the tube with wand applicator format which is preferable because you know how I feel about fingers in jars and germs. My wonderful husband ended up buying it for me and it really is an amazing lip balm! Very moisturizing and it doesn’t wear off quickly. But it’s also not so thick that it feels sticky or gross. The rose scent is quite strong but in a pleasant way. Overall I have to say that this is a new favourite! Would I pay the $76 for it? Probably not but I would definitely pick one up at duty free again!

While I was away, Sephora had their semi-annual VIB members discount which is 20% off. You only have a small window of time to use this discount though. I wasn’t going to be back in time and there are still no Sephora stores in the UK (I find it baffling that London doesn’t have a Sephora but apparently there is one coming soon). So I put my order in online and bought The Edgiest Kohl Shadowstick. Having such a great experience with the other products from The Estee Edit, I was very excited to try this shadowstick out. I ordered Grounded (described as a pearlized chestnut brown), expecting a really dark and deep rich brown given the name “Edgiest”. The colour payoff just wasn’t there though, it applies as a rather dull muted looking brown and even after applying several layers I couldn’t get it to a dark tone. Here is a swatch of what it looked like after applying several layers to my hand.

I will say that once it was applied, it did not budge at all. It was actually very difficult to remove with a non waterproof eye makeup remover. The actual formula is excellent if you are looking for a long wear shadowstick but the colour payoff on Grounded is just not there at all. Maybe it’s that particular shade so I’m definitely going to swatch some of the other shades in store to see of that’s the case with all of them.

NARS launched their Fall 2016 collection which includes 5 new lipsticks in the Audacious line. I hadn’t tried any of the new colours until I was in Liberty and swatched the shades. Apoline in particular is a very pretty rose colour and I considered purchasing it but didn’t because it’s something I could get at home and I didn’t know what else I might find. It worked out well because I ended up ordering it using the Sephora 20% off discount. Here’s what Apoline looks like
