One of my absolute favourite places to find beauty products is at The Detox Market. The Detox Market originally started as a pop up store and eventually went on to open four permanent locations; two in California and two here in Toronto. The store carries a whole slew of organic, clean and green products from well known brands including Indie Lee, Briogeo, RMS Beauty and Tata Harper as well as several brands that you may not have heard about yet. With beauty trending towards less toxic ingredients and cleaner/greener brands gaining more popularity, there are so many more choices vs. even five years ago.
Here are a few of my favourite staple brands:
You may have heard a lot about this brand recently as it’s picked up quite a lot of media attention over the last year or two. Tata Harper products are made with 100% natural ingredients sourced from around the globe and made in small batches out of their lab in Vermont. The Regenerating Cleanser is one of my favourites!
A brand that’s also been around for a few years but one that I’d only tried more recently, Indie Lee is all about the eco-chic. All natural ingredients and eco-friendly with a clean chic vibe (they also look great in your bathroom or on your vanity). I’ve been loving the Brightening Cleanser and CoQ-10 Toner.
A fantastic gateway brand if you are more recently diving into green beauty, Ilia has an awesome selection of makeup but I find their strength to be especially in the lip products. They all wear nicely, are never drying and have great colour payoff. I’m hooked on the Tinted Lip Conditioner which apply like a balm, swipe on with a sheer wash that leaves your lips looking soft and juicy or you can really build up to a deeper shade. Great for every day as well as travel when you need to keep the number of products down (a constant battle for us beauty hoarders, ha).

On my most recent trip to Detox Market, I discovered some new brands that really stood out.
A Canadian brand out of Edmonton, this line contains wild harvested ingredients. The products are all natural and smell and feel amazing! They also make a jade stone face roller which is said to heal skin and flush out toxins. I picked up the Sweet Face Moisturizer to try out and am really loving it! It’s very hydrating and super soothing (the main ingredient is chamomile floral water). This would be a great every day moisturizer for people with normal to dry skin and especially soothing for people with sensitive or irritated skin. Recommended products to try are the Sweet Face Restorative Daily Moisturizer and the Overnight Watermelon Mask.
The Beauty Chef
An Australian brand that believes beauty begins in the belly. Their line of powders and boosters are full of organic nutrients including chia seeds, maqui berry, queen garnet plums, turmeric, sunflower seeds, probiotics and more! You take these powders like you would a protein supplement – mix in with water or your favourite beverage. The Glow powder is the most popular one at the moment, it boosts your skin and gives you a radiant glow through superfood ingredients. More often, we all try to look for that magic product that we can apply to our face and forget that we can also work on beautiful skin from the inside. This is an awesome new product, I haven’t seen anything else like this on the market.
This brand wasn’t completely new to me as I had tried the bamboo cleansing cloths before but the Takesumi Detox Deodorant (a best seller) is something I hadn’t tried yet. The deodorant contains bamboo charcoal, giving the product a unique black colour and is available in three scents; Juicy Bamboo, Cold Pressed Rose and Lime Mint. I went for the Cold Pressed Rose which smells so nice, very natural and feminine but not in a granny rose kind of way.
May Lindstrom Skin
Created in small hand made batches to ensure the freshest quality every time, this unique line caught my eye with its super cool black packaging. It’s like the Bentley of green beauty! This line has an indulgent and luxurious feel to it with a price tag that is reflective but if you are looking for a real treat, I’d go for The Blue Cocoon beauty balm. It contains blue tansy and smells heavenly! Or try The Honey Mud cleansing silk….if you are wondering what a cleansing silk is (like I was), it’s actually a dual use product that can be used as a cleansing balm and a mask.
There are always new things to discover and the staff is super friendly and helpful, it’s a really great place just to poke around and find some cool stuff. You can try everything and it’s got a very genuine feel. Some mass retailers make you feel like you are being pushed through the giant conveyor belt of hurry up and buy, very much the opposite experience at The Detox Market. And if you are not in the vicinity of a store, you can always check out The Detox Market online for more information about the brands mentioned and lots of other great beauty products!
