Holiday Party Bag Essentials

img_2788

With holiday party season in full swing, it’s always handy to have a few beauty essentials that will take your 9-5 look into party mode without much fuss. I have two criteria for what makes a good party bag essential; 1. it needs to be quick and hassle free 2. it needs to be small so I can fit it into my small bag. Here are six (+ an honourable mention) that I’ve been loving recently!

ready in 5 brush

Sephora Collection Ready in 5 Eye Brush Set $25

The main reason that I purchased this set is for the little smudger brush but I’ve ended up getting quite a lot of use out of all of them. The four brushes come in a compact gold case that you can fit nicely into your small evening bag. To amp up my every day eye makeup and transform it into an evening look, I’ve been applying dark brown or black eyeliner and then smoking it out with the smudge brush. It takes 2 minutes and all you need is a good eyeliner and a decent brush like this one.

marc jacobs highliner

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon $31

I’ve mentioned these on the blog before and this is one of my most consistently used beauty products – the Marc Jacobs Highliner. Super soft and smooth to apply, long-lasting and they smudge out nicely as long as you work relatively quickly. You can often find a 3-pack of the miniature versions of the most popular colours in the check out isle at Sephora. The 3x mini pack is the same price as one full size eyeliner and you get about the same amount of product however I find the smaller size more convenient.

Charlotte Tilbury Lip Lustre in Hall of Fame $28

I’ve rediscovered Charlotte Tilbury lately and had forgotten how great the lipgloss’ are! These are quite under-rated and I’m not sure why they don’t get more love from the beauty community. Maybe it’s because of the size, they are smaller than most lip glosses but priced the same so it could be that people feel they aren’t getting a good value. They are nice quality though and the small size works perfectly as a party bag essential. I’ve been using Hall of Fame which is a super sheer pink that looks clear once applied.

I can appreciate a good red lip for the festive winter season but when you are eating and drinking at a party, it’s all going to come off anyway. I’ve been on a clear lipgloss kick lately, it’s polished but effortless at the same time…..it’s perfect because I can apply without a mirror in the back of a cab.

sephora totally lucid

On the topic of clear lipgloss, I have an honourable mention. I almost like the formula better than Charlotte Tilbury’s but it loses points for the wand being a bit flimsy – Sephora’s Ultra Shine Lip Gel ($16). I purchased this in Totally Lucid which is a true clear, it’s high shine and surprisingly not sticky.

shiseido ibuki

Shiseido Ibuki Smart Filtering Smoother Serum $29

This is my magic trick for keeping my face matte without powder. The full review on this can be found here, this is one of my must-haves for any evening out at a hot and/or crowded place. The product is smaller than a compact and fits into any bag or even in your pocket.

hello fab champagne

First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Mango Butter Multi Stick in Champagne $25

I’ve started to really dislike highlighter….well to be fair it’s not so much highlighter as the mass number of people who apply it incorrectly. I’ve seen far too many Instagram pictures of people rockin’ the neopolitan ice cream strip (the triple strip of highlighter, blush and bronzer). This includes some fairly notable youtubers and beauty gurus, I don’t get it but to each their own I guess. However for anyone that wants a super subtle highlighter that can multi-task, this one is for you! The Mango Butter Stick from Hello FAB adds a very natural light to the skin. I’ve been using it on my brow bone, inner corner of my eyes, cheekbones and even doing the occasional dab in the centre of my lips. It’s natural looking and adds the perfect amount of light for a pretty but not overdone finish.

IGK down and out

IGK Down & Out Dirty Spray $18 (travel size)

I’ve reviewed a couple of products from IGK before and hated the smell so stopped using them but have recently stumbled across this one which actually smells quite nice. It’s a spray that basically adds some “dirt” texture into your hair like one day hair, possibly two if you use too much. If you frequent the wash and go and then have flat hair for the rest of the day, throw some of this in. It doesn’t volumize but it does look a little more lived in and auto-styled.
